What Rev. Dr. John Yake says
Ms. Beverly Hadland spent the day with a hundred and twenty-eight of our Grade 10 students for their Grade Retreat (April 23, 2008). The student committee preparing the day had chosen the theme: Relationships, Dating and Sexuality.
Ms. Hadland was very sensitive to their needs and questions and she addressed their issues honestly both from her experience and from the perspective of current scientific data. Since I have invited Ms. Hadland to speak to students through my role as chaplain back in the 1980's I introduce her now as, "the best person in the world on the subject of teen sexuality". No one has the experience and the theory base to match hers.
On the last retreat the students told me how much they appreciated her warmth and caring, and her insights have really helped them form their attitudes, values, and behaviours in regard to the issue of sexuality.
She not only guided them but Ms. Hadland was able to explain the rules that should govern sexuality that lead to good physical, psychological, and spiritual health.
